WHS Beginning Drama & Advanced Drama Overview
These courses are designed to teach the beginning or intermediate actor the essentials of theatrical performance & analysis.
Students will learn how to bring a scene to “life” by developing believable characters through script analysis, acting, voice, & movement techniques.
Students will engage in improvisation, imagination exercises, ensemble building, & creative problem solving activities.
Students will explore story telling techniques including the art of pantomime and tableaux. They will also build complicated & dynamic characters in classical & modern monologue & in scene work.
In addition, students will read a variety of classical & modern playwrights, explore different theatrical styles & genres, learn stagecraft terminology & drama world history.
Each student is required to actively participate in daily acting warm-ups & activities, view live & streaming theatre productions, write reviews, & complete a set, costume, or marketing design.
Students are assessed by each other, by themselves, & by the instructor.
Both semesters culminate in a "final" showcase presentation demonstrating all of the acting skills students have developed throughout the course.
Participation in the Performing Arts Club & student drama productions, competitions, & events is highly recommended.
Dual enrollment with Ohlone College is available for advanced drama students (TD 118-01 "Survey of Acting Techniques") & those participating in PAC drama productions (TD 190-02 "Experimental Theatre Ensemble).
